Dr. Mehta, the School of Public and Population Health, and the Sealy Center on Aging seek to fill a postdoctoral fellowship position in US Life Expectancy Trends and Older-Aged Mortality Disparities. Work with internationally recognized aging researchers with a focus on population health and aging.
We seek a researcher with expertise in older-aged health and mortality disparities, cardiovascular disease, obesity, disability, demography, or population aging broadly.
The Fellow will work in close collaboration with Dr. Neil Mehta and would have access to many resources available at the Sealy Center on Aging (SCOA) and UTMB. SCOA has a $29.9 million annual research portfolio on population health and aging.

Aging-related research initiatives at UTMB include:
- Hispanic Established Population for Epidemiologic Studies of the Elderly (H-EPESE)
- The Mexican Health and Aging Study (MHAS)
- Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR)
- Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC)
- Center for Metabolic Health (CMH)
The Fellow would also have the opportunity to create a mentoring team who provides expert training and guidance in an environment that maximizes progress toward independently funded researcher status. Faculty mentors are in the School of Public and Population Health, School of Medicine, and School of Health Professions.
Fellowship duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Leading research initiatives
- Planning and performing data analyses
- Preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
- Presenting research at professional meetings and conferences
- Completing career development activities for the Postdoctoral Professional Development Certificate Program and training in the ethical conduct of research
In addition to the current NIH stipend level and full healthcare benefits, fellows receive additional funding for travel, networking, and training-related expenses.
A Selection Committee will review all applications, and applicants may be invited to interview.
Postdoctoral applicants must have received a PhD or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution by the beginning of the fellowship. Pending reasonable progress, the appointment is expected to be for 2 years.
