Dr. Al Snih Appointed Assistant Dean for Doctorate Foundational Curriculum at SPPH

Soham Al Snih, MD, PhD, has been appointed Assistant Dean for Doctorate Foundational Curriculum at the UTMB School for Public and Population Health. She will oversee PhD curricula and PhD foundational courses, assess program changes, and monitor doctoral student progress and professional development for PhD students.

Dr. Al Snih is a professor in the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities at the SPPH with an additional appointment in the Division of Geriatrics & Palliative Care, Department of Internal Medicine. She is director of the SPPH Rehabilitation Sciences Graduate Program. Dr. Al Snih earned her medical degree at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas, Venezuela, in 1986, then completed her internship, Internal Medicine residency, and Rheumatology fellowship at the Hospital Universitario de Caracas, Venezuela before joining Sealy Center on Aging at UTMB in 1998 as a visiting scientist. She completed her PhD in Preventive Medicine and Community Health and a postdoctoral fellowship under the T32 Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Research Training Program in 2007. She joined the UTMB School of Health Professions’ Division of Rehabilitation Sciences as faculty in 2008.

She is a Senior Fellow of the Sealy Center on Aging and recently received the Graduate Student Organization Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Al Snih is the Principal Investigator of the NIA-R01 Long-term Health Outcomes in Mexican American Older Adults and Co-I of the Hispanic Established Population for the Epidemiological Study of the Elderly. Her research examines health outcomes using large datasets focusing on functional outcomes, muscle strength, disability, frailty, and health disparities in older adults.
