The Importance of Collaboration for HCID Preparedness

Strong partnerships between healthcare and public health can enable more effective clinical services, targeted community screenings, and tailored community services. Having this approach to health not only will strengthen services and assist in the development of a more holistic approach to healthy communities, these partnerships and collaborations can also be used to strengthen pandemic or infectious disease outbreak preparedness efforts.

Below is a list of considerations and examples of HCID preparedness collaborations and activities between healthcare and public health:

Types of HCID preparedness collaborations between healthcare & public health:

  • Improving coordination of services between local PH and HC organizations
  • Infrastructure: challenges and considerations
  • Efforts to achieve a response model
  • Mobilizing information sharing practices
  • Initiate service delivery methods (communication to public/community)
  • Training and education offerings
  • Research to improve preparedness and response considerations

Types of HCID preparedness activities between healthcare & public health:

  • Developing or managing shared information systems
  • Create common toolsets (compliance tools, checklists, templates, plans, etc.)
  • Educational content (best-practices, webinars, lessons-learned)
  • Implement drills and exercises
  • Joint trainings
  • Cadenced round tables, meetings
  • Joint community engagements

The building of strong partnerships between healthcare and public health enhances HCID preparedness, ultimately creating a safer environment for all. These joint efforts will create a more effective and efficient health system, strengthening community bonds and providing us with the tools to successfully respond to an HCID event.
