Mission Statement: The purpose of the American Medical Association/Texas Medical Association (AMA/TMA) at UTMB is to promote medical students’ awareness of the importance of the political issues related to the practice of medicine and patient care and to improve advocacy skills related to these issues.

Mission Statement: Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is an active and engaged student group that shares the passion and fulfillment of Family Medicine, provides resources for students, professional skill development, and opportunities for service. The purpose of this organization is to create a support system for first generation medical students so they do not feel like they are on this road alone.

Mission Statement: The Gastroenterology Student Society (GSS) is a new organization on campus whose goal is to provide students the opportunity to explore the field of gastroenterology and gastroenterology surgery through panel discussions with specialists, direct clinical exposure, workshops, as well as community service projects.

Activities: 
A. Promote awareness of gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery and provide information about the specialty to medical students

B. Provide shadowing opportunities in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery for a more “hands-on” experience

C. Host workshops to allow students to acquire useful technical skills (endoscopy on simulator, etc.)

D. Host Q/A’s sessions with faculty, residents, or senior medical students to permit addressing the concerns/questions that students might have

Mission Statement: The Minimally Invasive Surgery Club seeks to educate medical students on various forms of minimally invasive surgical tools and their application in different surgical sub-specialties. The club also prepares medical students for their surgical clerkship and surgical residencies by providing opportunities in research, networking, and surgical skills training.

Mission Statement: To further educate students about the profession of pathology and assist students to pursue their interests within the field in a nonprofit manner. Students will establish professional contacts with pathologists on staff at UTMB and have an understanding of resources available.

Activities: Activities will include informative sessions by UTMB faculty and residents within the Department of Pathology to educate interested students about the diverse field of pathology. In addition, a Match Panel Meeting will provide students with information on pursuing a career in pathology. Other activities will include guided tours of the Department of Pathology laboratories and a mentorship program with members of the pathology department.

Mission Statement: The Organization is an educational association, which exists to foster the collaboration, development, and growth of graduate and medical students enrolled in the Graduate Program in Human Pathophysiology and Translational Medicine (HPTM) and the School of Medicine Translational Research Track (SOM TRT) at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). The organization shall serve to disseminate pertinent information among the membership and to further the interests of the membership by promoting participation in the University affairs as well as translational research outreach in the community.

Mission Statement: The mission of SNMA is to support current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians.

The SNMA Chapter at UTMB implements national programs and activities locally. These programs are geared towards serving the health needs of underserved communities and communities of color. SNMA is dedicated to ensuring that medical education and services are culturally sensitive to the needs of diverse populations, and to increasing the number of African-American, Latino and other students of color entering and completing medical school. In hosting campus wide events, workshops and "hot-topic" meetings, SNMA at UTMB aims to engage all students on campus for the purpose of achieving our national goals.
