Mission Statement: The UTMB Academic Journal Club allows medical students to meet and discuss current published scholarly literature as well work on their presentation skills and receive feedback in a comfortable environment. Journal article presentations are a very common practice across all specialties as well as in medical school training. Monthly meetings allow students to work on their presentation and literary comprehension skills and research topics of interest.

Activities: Monthly meetings to discuss academic topics of interest, practicing presentation skills and receiving constructive feedback on how to improve.

Mission Statement: To promote interests in Internal Medicine at University of Texas at Medical Branch (UTMB) through interactive meetings, networking with Internal Medicine faculty, fellows, residents, and students, and through Internal Medicine centered skill development workshops.

Activities: We will host workshops for relevant IM skills such as reading EKGs, inserting IVs, and performing a standardized physical exam (OSCE workshop), as well as having general meetings for students with speakers such as the Chief IM Resident and Match Panels with fourth year students.

Mission Statement: The purpose of AMA is to give students an opportunity to participate in policy making/writing and learning how to better voice concerns and advocate for change in medical education and the future of healthcare. Students will have opportunities for leadership and to interact with other medical students across the country.

Activities: Resolution writing, semester brown bag lunches, community service events, conference opportunities, and interacting with Texas government officials.

Mission Statement: The Anesthesiology Student Club at UTMB is a conduit for medical students seeking exciting and educational opportunities beyond the scope of the core clerkships. Our goal is to provide an educational and interactive environment for students interested in Anesthesiology to interact directly with faculty and residents, through our lecture series, resident mentoring, airway workshop, and various social events

Mission Statement: The Cardiology & Cardiothoracic Surgery Club at UTMB seeks to provide UTMB students with a greater understanding of the fields of cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology and a greater appreciation for the skills and requirements of the specialties.

Activities: The club holds monthly meetings and provides students with numerous activities for volunteer, OR shadowing, workshops, and access to the robotics simulation lab.

Mission Statement: The purpose of the Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Interest Group is to promote all fields of radiology and intervention, make aware of the imperative nature of radiology in medicine, and allow for student/faculty collaboration.

Activities: The DIRIG will create shadowing opportunities for students, allow research opportunities with faculty/fellows/residents, meet on a monthly basis with guest speakers, and continually provide learning opportunities for students interested in radiology.

Mission Statement: The Gastroenterology Student Society (GSS) is a new organization on campus whose goal is to provide students the opportunity to explore the field of gastroenterology and gastroenterology surgery through panel discussions with specialists, direct clinical exposure, workshops, as well as community service projects.

Activities: We are interested in hosting an endoscopy workshop, guest speakers at each meeting, and providing shadowing opportunities.

Mission Statement: Kappa Chi Delta was founded in 2015 to create a support system for women in which we can encourage one another throughout our medical careers. With monthly meetings and mentorship, you'll be sure to have support that ensures a comprehensive medical school experience. Our four founding pillars are service, scholarship, sisterhood and leadership.

Activities: Service will include community outreach programs, with opportunities to give back. Scholarship will provide you with educational resources, mentorship, and organized study groups to ease the transition to medical school. Sisterhood offers an opportunity to meet and grow friendships with like-minded women creating a strong support group.

Mission Statement: The Latino Medical Student Association at UTMB is committed to recruitment and retention of underrepresented students in medicine. We strive to develop leadership opportunities by mentorship, volunteerism, and advocating for the community.

Mission Statement: The purpose of the Ophthalmology Student Organization (OSO) is to introduce Medical Students to the world of Ophthalmology and the basics of comprehensive ophthalmic exam. 1) To promote interest in Otolaryngology

Mission Statement: To further educate students about the profession of pathology and assist students to pursue their interests within the field in a nonprofit manner. Students will establish professional contacts with pathologists on staff at UTMB and have an understanding of resources available.

Activities: Activities will include informative sessions by UTMB faculty and residents within the Department of Pathology to educate interested students about the diverse field of pathology. In addition, a Match Panel Meeting will provide students with information on pursuing a career in pathology. Other activities will include guided tours of the Department of Pathology laboratories.

Mission Statement: Phi Beta Pi provides a brotherhood existing to pursue the goals of achieving academic excellence, promoting mentorship, organizing events for the student body and providing charity outreach to the community. Our original charter describes our mission as "to provide a place for discussion of medical problems and topics in an atmosphere of tolerance and understanding."

Mission Statement: The Urological Student Association (USA) at the University of Texas Medical Branch is an educational, nonprofit organization, which recognizes urology as a broad, challenging, and exciting area of medicine.

Activities: To encourage medical student interests in urology:

* To increase exposure of medical students to the field of urology;
* To foster a sense of collegiality among students interested in urology’
* To help students find mentors in the field of urology;
* To provide information about urology events at UTMB, locally, regionally, and nationally;
* To give interested students and opportunity to learn about the American Urology Association;
* To promote attendance at national and regional urology conferences;
* To teach people in the Galveston community about preventative measures for urological diseases;
* To create and disperse an electronic newsletter which will form a link between students, faculty, residents, and alumni. This news letter will contain information regarding opportunities in research, community involvement, and experience in urology.
