Pediatric Endocrinology

UTMB Health also provides comprehensive clinical care for children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus, other endocrine disorders, and obesity. We treat the following:

  • Diabetes Mellitus, Types I and 2, monogenic diabetes and pre-diabetes
  • Growth disorders, including Turner syndrome and Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, and gonadal disorders
  • Disorders of calcium metabolism

Specialized services include:

  • Pituitary stimulation testing, including growth hormone testing
  • Insulin pump training
  • Continuous glucose monitoring
The Stark Diabetes Center

The mission of the Stark Diabetes Center is to advance the health of Texas and to improve the quality of care for Texans, with a specific emphasis on prevention of diabetes and its complications.

There is compelling evidence for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to management and prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The main objective of Stark Diabetes Center is to identify the optimal approach to decrease risk for diabetes and its complications in the multiethnic population of Texas and ultimately provide plans to reduce the burden of obesity, diabetes and its complications. The Stark Diabetes Center provides state of the art clinical care, research and education in the area of disease conditions and syndromes including but not limited to diabetes, dyslipidemia and obesity, as well as the metabolic syndrome.

Prevent Type 2 Diabetes UTMB Health

If you have prediabetes or other risk factors for type 2 diabetes, now is the time to take charge of your health and make a change.

As part of a PreventT2® group, you will work with a trained lifestyle coach and other participants to learn the skills you need to make lasting changes. You will learn to eat healthy, add physical activity to your life, manage stress, stay motivated, and solve problems that can get in the way of healthy changes. PreventT2® is a year-long program with weekly meetings for the first 6 months, then meetings once or twice a month for the second 6 months to help you maintain your healthy lifestyle changes.
