Galveston County Daily News, Oct. 29, 2006 By Heber Taylor A week ago, Dolph Tillotson, president and publisher of The Daily News, wrote a column in which he asked what community leaders could do to support the University of Texas Medical Branch. When Dr. John D. Stobo announced plans to resign as president of the medical branch in August, he called for the community to support the institution. The medical branch has experienced successive cuts in state funding. As a result, it has cut the number of employees. It has rationed care for those who can’t afford to pay. It has expanded its search for paying patients, angering physicians in the private sector.
