Community must lead UTMB fight

The Galveston County Daily News, Nov. 12, 2006 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=f7fa2c4b915d12d8   I want to alarm you about the University of Texas Medical Branch. Somebody needs to. Galveston’s dependence solely on the University of Texas system and UTMB as its only health-care provider may result in disaster unless local leaders step up to the plate soon. The university, its clinics and hospitals, are threatened. UTMB faces internal conflict about cost cuts. The president, Dr. John D. Stobo, has announced he’ll resign in August. The school faces a tough battle in the Legislature for funding.
