Beaumont Enterprise, Dec. 15, 2006 After efforts stalled for the second time Thursday, law enforcement officers said they will not try again this year to remove a bullet from Joshua Bush's head. A bullet in 17-year-old Bush's head may be evidence in the shooting death of a man following a burglary at a Port Arthur car lot in July, according to search warrant affidavits. Bush has refused to allow the bullet's extraction but District Judge Layne Walker has issued search warrants authorizing the projectile's surgical removal. A pre-operation examination of Bush was performed Tuesday and surgery to remove the bullet was scheduled for Thursday at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. But late Wednesday, the hospital's legal department informed officers the operation would not be performed, said Ramon Rodriguez, Jefferson County assistant district attorney. Hospital representatives declined to comment Thursday.
