Galveston County Daily News, Jan. 19, 2007 GALVESTON, Texas --University of Texas Medical Branch officials say they won’t halt a compensation plan that ties faculty pay to performance, despite union calls for a moratorium. "UTMB’s flawed compensation plan has shaken this excellent institution to its core," said Stan Watowich, a tenured associate professor at the medical branch and chair of the local chapter of the Texas Faculty Association.  Watowich, however, said he was speaking to The Daily News on his own behalf and not for the association.  "This new compensation plan has faculty and physicians demoralized, upset, disenchanted and feeling betrayed. Many excellent faculty are abandoning UTMB. This ‘brain drain’ weakens research and patient care," he said.
