Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 05/28/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?WCD=86013 Cindy Wigg sees the effects of teenage drug abuse all the time. She’s the medical director for the child and adolescent psychiatric hospital at the University of Texas Medical Branch. “Sometimes they’ve taken too much, and they’re coming in for that,” she said. “Other times what they’ve taken might not be a pure form of the drug, and they’re having a bad reaction.” Still others, she said, have realized they’re on the wrong path, and they might be trying to quit. “Some kids come in, and they’re in withdrawal,” she said. More and more, Wigg said, the drugs these kids are taking aren’t the ones their parents might expect. A study released this month by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America found a growing number of teenagers to be abusing over-the-counter and prescription drugs.
