University to sell Runge House

Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 05/17/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=5fb99554d7df1556 Have about $1 million burning a hole in your pocket? Then one of the island’s most prominent historic dwellings, once the home of University of Texas Medical Branch president John Stobo, could be yours. After approval by the Austin-based University of Texas System Board of Regents, the university’s real estate office is soliciting bids for the Runge House, at 1301 Market St. The minimum bid price is a cool $925,000. Offers — for cash purchase only — will be accepted until June 22. “We had a choice of selling or converting the home to an office-use facility,” said Tom Curtis. “This way, it will be used as a home, as it should be, and go back on the tax rolls.” (This story also appeared on KHOU-TV (CBS) Ch. 11 here: http://www.khou.com/news/local/galveston/stories/khou060517_ac_rungehouse.4d6f1cd5.html)
