Blocker Burn Unit News

The Truman G. Blocker Burn Unit, one of the foremost adult burn treatment facilities in the nation, is up and running with four adult beds available. The unit, located on the second floor of John Sealy Hospital, is treating burn patients 13 and older. Although the Shriners Burns Hospital for Children is closed indefinitely, UTMB’s Blocker Burn Unit is able to treat up to six children, 13 and younger, with less severe burns. Click here to watch Dr. David Callender and Jamie Heffernan, nurse supervisor for the BBU, talk about the unit and the impact of the closure of Shriners Burns Hospital on UTMB.
