College has put me on the ladder to success
Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 06/27/06 (no weblink available) Guest Column by Krystal Slater: Getting a good education and a good job today is a challenge. For me it was a long, hard struggle – but it was all worth it. I just graduated from Galveston College with an applied science degree in nursing and am now just starting my new job as a surgical nurse in the intensive care unit at the University of Texas Medical Branch. I couldn’t be happier! I wanted a job – no, a career – where I could make a difference. I wanted to use my education, my training and my skills to make a difference in someone’s life. Working in ICU, I believe that difference could be life and death. Along the way, I have had a lot of help from my family, my instructors at Galveston College and the staff at UTMB while I was orienting. All along, I knew that if I kept a positive attitude and I believed in myself, I could make it. One of the biggest reasons I was able to make it was because of my education at Galveston College.
