ACC students tour wide range of facilities
Brazosport Facts (Internet / Print) 07/23/06 The health and medical field is so vast, it is difficult for people wanting a career to know about the variety of employment opportunities and training programs available. Realizing this was a concern of students enrolling at Alvin Community College, academic advisor Gwendolyn Burgess and a group of students in 2003 created the Health and Medical Society. “I noticed from advising students that there was an influx of students interested in nursing or the health and medical field,” said Burgess, the sponsor of the organization. “I want to see the success of the students; I felt this organization would give them an idea of all the different career paths.” Since its inception, members have toured health care and medical facilities throughout Southeast Texas, such as M.D. Anderson, the Schools of Optometry and Pharmacy at the University of Houston, the University of Texas Medical Branch and more.
