UT joins project to offer free online courses

San Antonio Express-News, October 15, 2012

University of Texas System regents Monday brought $10 million and the system's institutional weight to an elite nonprofit partnership working to bring online college courses to anyone with Internet access. The investment in “massive open online courses,” informally known as MOOCs, makes UT the first public university system to join edX, a partnership started by Harvard and MIT. UTMB President Dr. David L. Callender said the edX partnership will help health institutions' outreach efforts, foster faculty collaborations and enhance the UT brand in the global health arena. The news also appears in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Austin American-Statesman and the Houston Chronicle.
