UTMB celebrates 'Match Day'

Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 03/18/06 http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=0fab9c425dfb6b89 One hundred and eighty senior medical students at the University of Texas Medical Branch learned this week where they would spend the next three years of their lives. “Our students have been accepted to some of the most prestigious medical schools in the country for their residencies,” said Lauree Thomas, associate dean of student affairs. “It’s been one of the most successful Match Days in UTMB’s history.” Fourth-year medical students, many flanked by family and friends, waited in the Levin Hall main auditorium Thursday to learn their fate. The event was like many Match Day ceremonies at the nation’s 125 medical schools. At UTMB, students are called randomly to receive the long-awaited news. As tradition dictates, each student drops a dollar in a bowl and the last student to be called receives the pot. This year, Jennifer Brandenberger was the lucky winner.
