Healthy nuts: A super food for your daily diet

In this week’s column, UTMB’s Dr. Victor S. Sierpina touts the health benefits of nuts: Try to get the unsalted, unroasted varieties or raw nuts when you can. Many nuts are cooked in oils and salt and these detract from their healthfulness by loading them up with fat and sodium. Keep unshelled nuts in the refrigerator for longer shelf life, as the oils tend to get rancid.
