Island could become medical tourism Mecca

Houston Chronicle, June 24, 2013

Patients have come from as far as Sweden for Dr. Eric Walser’s innovative, non-surgical prostate cancer treatment at UTMB. Galveston officials want such patients and their families, drawn by UTMB’s unique medical services, to boost the local economy by enjoying the city's beaches, staying in its hotels and dining in its restaurants. UTMB and the Galveston Park Board are exploring the potential for promoting medical tourism as patients seek cheaper or better quality medical care outside their hometown or their country.
