Vaccine Smarts: What about that case of whooping cough in Galveston

In the latest Vaccine Smarts column, UTMB’s Dr. Richard Rupp and Bridget Hawkins address a recent case of pertussis at a Galveston high school. “We are well aware of the whooping cough case at your daughter’s school. So far, there has been only one student in Galveston identified with the disease. That fact is actually a testament to the power of vaccination. The majority of the students at the school are vaccinated. If they hadn’t been, we guarantee there would be many more cases.”
