Urgent care clinic extends weekend hours
The urgent care clinic at the UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes has extended weekend hours to 10 p.m. The clinic, located at 2240 Gulf Freeway South in League City, is open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and is now open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The Southern Group on Educational Affairs of the American Association of Medical Colleges recently honored Dr. Ann Frye with the SGEA Career Educator Award during its 2014 annual conference. The award recognizes service to the SGEA and lifetime achievement in medical education, including a record of scholarship, leadership, collaboration and professionalism.
Children's book drive
The pediatrics department needs infant board books for children in the hospital and pediatric clinics literacy program. Donations of new or gently-used books can be dropped off in the department’s administrative office, Room 3.300, Research Building 6. Dementia support dinners
“Caregivers’ need for support and education” is the topic for the April 15 dinner for area families, friends and caregivers of those with dementia. Hosted by the UTMB Sealy Center for Aging and the Galveston First Presbyterian Church, the dinner takes place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., in the second floor dining room at Levin Hall, located at 10th and Market streets. Free parking will be available and the price is $5 per person with reservations required by the Friday before the dinner. Gastrointestinal cancer support group
“Care for the caregivers” will be presented by UTMB’s Patty Grow at the GI cancer support group meeting at 5:30 p.m. today in Room 1.132 of the Rebecca Sealy Building, at the corner of Market and Eighth streets.
