Furniture company gives families a special delivery

The single mother and accounting clerk at the University of Texas Medical Branch was one of 30 recipients of Gallery Furniture's 22nd annual Holiday Giveaway. Vargas, who's among four Bay Area residents selected, received a queen- and twin-sized bedroom set and a dining and living room set. A group of Gallery Furniture employees worked to surprise the 30 families leading up to Christmas. "It was a big surprise and a blessing to say the least when they showed up to deliver the furniture," Vargas, 45, said. "I mean, we haven't had a couch in I don't know how long." Jennifer Wilkin, 37, a coworker of Vargas' at UTMB, wrote a letter on Vargas' behalf to the holiday giveaway's panel of judges.
