“Health Ontology Platform for Behaviors of Eating, Activity, and Trajectories of Aging and Alzheimer’s disease in Society (HOP4BEATS)”

I will be presenting a U01 proposal in response to PAR-23-182. Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the predominant form of dementia, affects millions in the US, with up to 40% of cases potentially preventable through lifestyle modifications. However, systemic and sociocultural factors influencing these behaviors are underrepresented in AD research. This project aims to develop integrated ontologies for a comprehensive model capturing these factors, use national datasets to instantiate the ontologies, and create a user-friendly platform with predictive models for AD research, all incorporated into the ProtoOKN Knowledge Graphs.

Dr. Muhammad "Tuan" Amith is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science at the University of Texas Medical Branch, focusing on public health informatics research. Dr. Amith received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), He is currently working on a funded CPRIT research study in the development and experimentation of speech based conversational agents for HPV vaccine counseling. He is also involved in research and development of natural language processing methods, biomedical ontologies and ontology-driven tools for analysis and automation for health care data. His work (~48) has been published in many journals including Journal of Biomedical Informatics, Journal of American Medical Informatics Association, and the Journal of Medical Internet Research, and his work has been recognized with several best paper distinctions from the research community, including the International Medical Informatics Association, and the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). Lastly, he currently serves on the editorial board for the BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making and Scientific Reports.
