Anthony Williams, MBA Vice President of Ambulatory Care
Anthony Williams earned his bachelor’s degree in Medical Records Administration from UTMB’s School of Allied Health Sciences in 1986. He completed training at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital, and Henderson Memorial Hospital, where he became a registered health information administrator. In 2001, he earned a Master of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University.
Williams began his career as an assistant director of medical records and quality assurance coordinator at the UT Health Science Center in Tyler, Texas. During that time, he also served as vice president of District IV of the Texas Medical Records Association. In August 1987, he joined the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a regional medical records administrator and was quickly promoted to system-wide coordinator for medical records.
In 1994, Williams joined UTMB Correctional Managed Care as assistant director of health information management. From 2001 to 2005, he served as executive director of clinical programs before taking on his current role as director of operations.
Williams also served as a system administrator for UTMB Correctional Managed Care’s electronic medical record system. He played a key role in developing many of the system’s features, including documentation, chart management, appointment scheduling templates, and diagnostic maintenance systems that are still used today. His extensive knowledge of information management, legal documentation, and operations has been essential to the continued growth and improvement of the electronic medical record system.
