The G2211 – visits complexity code may be a missed opportunity for you. This code was created by Medicare but other payors are recognizing and reimbursing for this code. Choose this code to bill along with your new and established office visit codes 99202-99215 when:
- You have an established longitudinal care relationship with your patient
- You are intending to establish a longitudinal care relationship with your patient. Yes, this code may be billed with new patient office visits.
A longitudinal relationship is the relationship between the patient and the provider for all needed healthcare related to what the provider is treating or managing. The provider is ensuring the patient complies with treatment recommendations and has the continuing responsibility and accountability to coordinate, evaluate, and manage health care problem(s) during the office visits. This includes all patients, not just those with chronic conditions or high-risk diseases. The longitudinal care relationship is the focus of the G2211 complexity code.
The G2211 is not limited to certain specialties and does not have a frequency limitation. Any provider, regardless of specialty, may bill this code with each office visit when the provider/patient longitudinal care relationship is established or is in the process of being established.
You are eligible to bill this code if you are the patient’s:
- Primary care provider and are the focal point for the patient’s overall care and you either have or are in the process of establishing longitudinal care relationship with the patient
- Specialty provider who is providing ongoing care related to a patient’s condition and either has or is in the process of establishing the longitudinal care relationship with the patient
