CD released the FY2025 ICD-10-CM changes effective 10/1/2024. There are 252 new codes, 36 deleted codes, and 13 code revisions. Here are a few highlights:
Chapter 2 – Neoplasms: This chapter has more new codes than any other chapter. This chapter has 63 new codes expanding cancer to include “in remission.” Categories C81-C88 will identify codes for Hodgkin lymphoma, Follicular lymphoma, Non-Follicular lymphoma, Mature T/NK-cell lymphomas, other specified and unspecified types of Non-Hodgkin lymphomas, other specified types of T/NK-cell lymphomas, and Malignant Immunoproliferative diseases and certain other B-cell lymphomas.
Chapter 4 – Endocrine, Nutritional, and Metabolic Diseases added level and class to Hypoglycemia and Obesity. Hypoglycemia level 2 and 3 (E16.A2-E16.A3). Obesity class and class 1 has new codes in the E66 category. One new code, D61.03 Fanconi anemia was added.
Chapter 5 – Mental and Behavioral Disorders adds type and severity to eating disorders and 2 new codes for mental and behavioral conditions in adults in the F50 category.
Chapter 11 – Diseases of the Digestive System adds 5- and 6-digit codes for conditions, providing additional details in the complexity of the condition. The K60 category has new codes to identify the anal, rectal, and anorectal fistulas as simple, complex, initial, persistent, recurrent, or unspecified.
Chapter 12 – Diseases of the Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue: Category L29 includes new codes to identify cholestatic pruritus and other pruritus. Category L66, has new 5-digit codes to describe lichen planopilaris more fully and central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia.
Chapter 13 – Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System and Connective Tissue includes several new codes for diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue. Category M51 thoracic, thoracolumbar, and lumbosacral intervertebral disk disorders, has four new 6-digit codes to specify the location of pain more. Category M65 includes several new 5- and 6-digit codes to identify the location of the unspecified synovitis and tenosynovitis.
Chapter 17 – Congenital Malformations, Deformations, and Chromosomal Abnormalities includes new codes for congenital malformation of the aortic and mitral valves in the Q23 category and one new code for Kleefstra syndrome in the Q87 category.
Chapter 21 – Factors Influencing Health Status and Contact with Health Services has new codes for genetic susceptibility for various diseases such as epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders and obesity. Two codes for SDOH for insufficient health insurance coverage and welfare support along with four new codes to identify personal history of specific types of colon polyps.
