Administering In-Clinic Medications via the MAR

The only way to trigger the charges for medications administered in the clinic (injection drugs such as steroids, IUD and Nexplanon devices, etc.) is to order and administer the medication in the MAR.

Typically nursing staff will complete this; however if it was not completed you may receive a Coding Action Required in Epic.

  1. Order the In-clinic medication denoted with the Bed Icon (i.e. Botox) and sign.
  2. If ordered late, use the current date in order entry; the date will be corrected in the MAR.
  3. In the MAR activity, click the blue Due and document the Administration Details.
  4. In the Administration Details screen, document all required fields.
  5. Update the date/time the medication was administered (if needed).
  6. If the order is off schedule, select an Off Schedule Reason when prompted.
  7. If medication was sent from patient’s pharmacy, check the Patient Supplied box in the billing section.
  8. Enter the NDC, Lot Number, and Expiration Date of the medication.
  9. Click Accept to close the Administration Details workspace.
