The UTMB Palliative Care Program has officially reopened to serve patients, effective Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025. The clinic is located at:

The clinic will operate Monday through Thursday, staffed by three dedicated palliative care faculty members:
- Dr. Mostafa El Sayed
- Dr. Brianna Probasco
- Dr. Sean O’Mahony
Palliative care provides an added layer of support for patients facing serious or complex illnesses (e.g. cancer, COPD, CHF, chronic kidney or liver disease, Dementia, degenerative neurological conditions, AIDS) by focusing on symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, advance care planning, and goals-of-care discussions.
Referrals to palliative care are especially beneficial for patients experiencing:
- Uncontrolled symptoms (e.g., pain, nausea, breathlessness)
- Progressive or life-limiting conditions
- Frequent hospitalizations or ER visits
- Complex medical decision-making needs
- Psychosocial or spiritual distress
- Caregiver strain
