UTMB University Health Clinics (UHC)

Clinics are staffed by three dedicated palliative care faculty members:

  • Dr. Mostafa El Sayed
  • Dr. Brianna Probasco
  • Dr. Sean O’Mahony

Palliative care provides an added layer of support for patients facing serious or complex illnesses (e.g. cancer, COPD, CHF, chronic kidney or liver disease, Dementia, degenerative neurological conditions, AIDS) by focusing on symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, advance care planning, and goals-of-care discussions.

Referrals to palliative care are especially beneficial for patients experiencing:

  • Uncontrolled symptoms (e.g., pain, nausea, breathlessness)
  • Progressive or life-limiting conditions
  • Frequent hospitalizations or ER visits
  • Complex medical decision-making needs
  • Psychosocial or spiritual distress
  • Caregiver strain

To refer a patient, please use the referral code: REF000202 in Epic.

The Palliative Care Program faculty and staff are excited to continue serving patients and colleagues and appreciate your support in ensuring that those who may benefit from palliative care receive timely, compassionate care.
