Monkeypox
What To Do If You Suspect Monkeypox:
- Isolate the patient from the general population in a negative pressure isolation room, if available.
- Wear appropriate PPE including gown, gloves and a fit-test approved N95 respirator. Wear eye protection if medical procedures may lead to splashing or spraying of a patient’s body fluids.
- Place a surgical mask over the patient’s nose and mouth—if tolerable to the patient—and cover any of the patient’s exposed skin lesions with a sheet or gown.
- Promptly inform Infection Control & Healthcare Epidemiology at 409-643-3133 (pager) or 409-772-3192 (office).
- Any EPA registered hospital grade disinfectant may be used to clean surfaces.
