Mission

The mission of the MR is to facilitate microbiome-related research and promote its integration with the education and training activities in UTMB, as well as to improve infectious diseases and chronic health disorders by understanding the effects of the microbiome in both fundamental mechanisms and translation into therapeutics to improve the well-being of human health. The MR provides support for the Germ-free mouse facility and platforms for microbiome analysis by using high-throughput sequencing technologies and a variety of genomic/metagenomic tools, which will provide UTMB faculty at large unique resources and training opportunities to become highly competitive in obtaining extramural funding in this rapidly growing area of the microbiome and its effect on diverse diseases and biological processes.
