UTMB’s Correctional Managed Care, in partnership with Value Options NorthSTAR, provides health screening and coordination of care to county indigent resources in North Texas. At 18 clinic locations in a seven-county region in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, CMC’s certified medical assistants work with NorthSTAR, a publicly funded behavioral health program, to serve medically indigent and Medicaid recipients who live within this region.
Launched in 1999, NorthSTAR is the first program of its kind in Texas to combine service programs and financial assets into an integrated single system of care with mental health care and chemical dependency services. The Medical Assistants provide health screens, patient education, and referrals to county indigent resources, among other duties.

Colleen Villamin, expected to graduate from
UTMB's Clinical Nurse Leader Program in 2014, is the recipient of this year’s Arceneaux Award, MD Anderson’s highest nursing-oncologist honor, which comes with a $15,000 prize. In addition to being a student at UTMB and a cardiothoracic nurse at MD Anderson, Colleen is the mother of two.

UTMB Police Officer Gerardo Gonzales was recently honored as a Fifty Club Officer of the Year by the City of Galveston. Officer Gonzales has served UTMB for more than 13 years and has received many accolades for exemplary service as a patrol officer and for superior life-saving skills. He was honored at a special ceremony recently with other distinguished police officers from various agencies in the city of Galveston. Officer Gonzales holds a Police Intermediate certificate with TCLEOSE and he also served in the US Army for three years, achieving the rank of Corporal.
