UTMB Director of Breast Imaging Dr. Morton Leonard explains a procedure he uses to biopsy a lump in the breast.
The program will provide breast health education, screening mammograms, diagnostic procedures, patient navigation and cancer surveillance to uninsured women throughout southeast Texas, including patients at UTMB’s Regional Maternal and Child Health clinics in Pearland, Angleton, Sugar Land, Katy, New Caney, Conroe, Texas City and Galveston.
The Komen funds also will pay for diagnostic procedures for women who attend UTMB’s Sunday Church Breast Screening program whose mammograms show abnormalities.
“UTMB is very grateful for the ongoing support and efforts of the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” said Deana M. Gehring, director of the UTMB Komen Complete Care Project. “We are both honored and privileged to move forward and broaden access to breast cancer screening and diagnostic services to underserved women throughout southeast Texas.”
This is the ninth year that Komen has granted funds to UTMB to provide these services.
