Michelle Beckwith, area director of Catering and Paul Schultz, vice president of Hospitality presented a check for $100,000 to UTMB following the 17th Annual San Luis Salute.

The San Luis Salute, hosted by Tilman and Paige Fertitta, celebrates Mardi Gras! Galveston by providing a charitable aspect to the City’s annual celebration. Each year, the Salute recognizes the extraordinary work of doctors and scientists, and also funds specific programs at UTMB.

Launched in 1997, the Fertittas have continued to build upon a tradition of tremendous success, excitement and fun. Last year, the San Luis Salute honored Dr. Ken Fujise, professor and chief of the division of cardiology and the John Sealy Distinguished Centennial Chair in Cardiology, and benefited UTMB's new Jennie Sealy Hospital.

Continually recognized as one of the best parties of the year, with the usual glitz and glamour of the black-tie ball, Salute to Jazz was a night to remember. Guests were dazzled with the breath-taking performances, stylish costumes and exciting Las Vegas style entertainment including a special performance by Kool & The Gang.

The 2013 San Luis Salute marked the largest ball ever staged in Galveston with over 1,450 guests in attendance.
