There will be more than 40 UTMB and community vendor groups offering visitors healthy fitness activities and games (all indoors), as well as prizes for kids and free backpacks full of school supplies. There will be a “Healthy Plate” obstacle course for children, health screenings of all sorts for every member of the family, special visits from clowns, police officers and Emergency Medical Service providers and even fire engine tours. At noon, there will be a rededication of the pediatric art wall — a mosaic of more than 1,000 ceramic art tiles hand-painted by patients and community members.

 

Many different senior services will be represented among the vendors including Libbie’s Place Senior Day Program, Right at Home, UTMB’s Center for Spirituality of Aging, Concord Assisted Living and Bright Solutions Home Helpers. The UTMB Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will offer free automatic external defibrillator training to seniors and their caregivers. Visitors will have the opportunity to donate blood or to have their blood pressure taken.

 

All primary and specialty care clinics at the pavilion will be open for tours, with health care providers who work in the clinics there to answer visitors’ questions. Pavilion clinics include Allergy, Phlebotomy, Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Island Pediatrics East, Orthopaedics, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Radiology/Imaging, Rheumatology and Stark Diabetes Center. Many of UTMB’s other Galveston clinics and services, including Clinical Trials, Cancer Center and Women’s Health, will have booths at the fair to share information with visitors.

 

Vendors include D’Feet Breast Cancer Inc., the Resource and Crisis Center, the DePelchin Children’s Center, the Alzheimer’s Association, Krumholtz and Kennedy DDS, the Oliver Center for Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare, Galveston College, Ronald McDonald House, Juice Plus, Moody Medical Library, Visalus, University Federal Credit Union, Elks Lodge Galveston #126, Bethany Home Health Services, Galveston Family YMCA, Galveston Area Ambulance Authority, Rene Laennec Osler Student Society, the Garden Gals, Rosenberg Library, the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Truman Blocker Jr. Osler Student Society.

 

UTMB encourages everyone in the community to come out to learn about all the health resources available in Galveston and have a day full of fun, fellowship, gifts, prizes and healthy information. Light refreshments will be served.
