The UTMB Breast Cancer Support Group for women diagnosed with breast cancer will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Galveston Island Community Center, Suite B101, 4700 Broadway. The group helps women at any stage of diagnosis and treatment understand that breast cancer affects them both emotionally and spiritually, not just physically. A light meal and refreshments will be offered. Meetings are hosted the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Health policy lecture
Dr. George “Holt” Oliver, vice president for clinical informatics at the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation, will speak on “Predictive health analytics: Development, use and regulation” at the next Healthy Health Policy lunch and lecture at 11:30 a.m., Oct. 23, in Room 3.362 of the Clinical Sciences Building, located on the Galveston campus behind John Sealy Hospital. Free screening mammograms for uninsured
UTMB Health and The Ruth Kempner Endowment for Breast Cancer Screening are partnering to provide free screening mammograms for uninsured women in our community. A mobile mammography van will offer screenings on Oct. 27 in Texas City and Nov.3 in Galveston for uninsured women who meet a number of criteria and register in advance. Police training exercise
UTMB police will conduct an active shooter training exercise in John Sealy Hospital on Oct. 30. The exercise, which will include hospital personnel, is scheduled for 1 p.m. This is a training exercise only and will not be a real emergency situation. The exercise will be confined to one area of the hospital. Access to the training area on the third floor will be restricted but the rest of the hospital will remain open.
