Resident research forum
The first annual Department of Internal Medicine Quality and Resident Research Forum was held recently in Levin Hall. The event was sponsored by Dr. Randall Urban, chair of the department of Internal Medicine, to promote housestaff research and to increase the culture of quality and patient safety in the department. His presentation was titled “Patient Safety 10 years after To Err is Human.” Thomas’ research on patient safety was prominently cited in the groundbreaking report “To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System” released in 1999 by the Institute of Medicine . Fifty-one resident and fellow posters were presented with awards going to Andy Chen (1st place), Jason Bell (2nd place) and Jason Welch (third place).
