As interim CFO, Mr. Scheer will oversee our financial systems during a time of enormous growth and progress. He has proven expertise in working with senior leaders and physicians to strengthen financial health. He also is skilled at implementing structures and processes that support financial transparency and integration across organizations.

 

Four financial divisions will report to him: Budget and Analysis, Financial Accounting and Reporting, Finance Administration for the Health System, and Planning and Performance Management.

 

Mr. Scheer has served at a number of health care institutions across the country, including the University of Washington in Seattle; Loyola University Health System in Chicago; Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Ga.; Allegany Health System in Tampa, Fla.; and Daughters of Charity Health System West in Los Altos, Calif. In addition to his CPA designation, he holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business from Central Washington University in Ellensburg and an MBA from Saint Mary’s University in Moraga, Calif.

 

With Mr. Scheer in place to help manage our financial systems, we will begin the national search for a permanent Executive Vice President and Chief Business and Finance Officer in early 2014. The search committee currently is being formed and will be co-chaired by Dr. Danny Jacobs, executive vice president, provost and dean of medicine, and by Ms. Donna Sollenberger, executive vice president and chief executive officer, UTMB Health System.
