The School of Health Professions is hosting its annual School of Health Professionals Causeway Fund Run/Walk on March 8 in partnership with FitTriRun to benefit student scholarships.The event includes a kids’ 1K, a wheelchair 5K, and a 5K run/walk to the top of the Galveston Causeway.

 

Preregistration information is now available at www.shp.utmb.edu/fundrun.Early registration is $10 for the kids’ run and $25 for the 5K. On the day of the race, the cost is $20 for the kids’ run and $40 for the 5K.The course is certified, and preregistered 5K participants will be chip timed. The UTMB stroke support group is taking a holiday and will meet again on Feb. 26. In the meantime, “Tried and True Recipes,” a fundraising cookbook, is now available.The $10 book is a compilation of recipes from stroke survivors and family members; physical, occupational and speech therapists; as well as nursing staff and friends.Contact Karen Kunz at kakunz@utmb.edu or 409-772-1833.

  

Galveston’s 20th annual Christmas Tree Recycling Drive will run through Jan. 20. All live evergreen trees, including flocked trees, along with wood stands, will be accepted.All tinsel, lights, decorations and plastic or metal stands must be removed for recycling. UTMB and the city of Galveston will convert the trees to mulch for use throughout the year. Drop-off sites are at the open-top trash bin at Lindale Park off Marine Street and the Galveston Eco-Center, 702 61st Street. Call Ken Steblein at 409-747-2959.

 Asthma research
