UTMB President David L. Callender recently got a behind-the-scenes look at Patient Services and the important role the department plays in patient care.

“Providing the best possible care for our patients is our highest priority,” said Callender.  “I was able to experience firsthand the important role that Patient Services plays every day in making sure all of our patients receive the utmost in care – whether it is through problem resolution, interpreters or resolving service related issues – the department is 100 percent committed to ensuring our patients receive top-quality care.”

Patient Services comprises advocates, interpreters, patient escorts and support staff who support patients and staff in the resolution of patient concerns as well as provide assistance with service related patient needs.

“It was a pleasure to have Dr. Callender slip on a blue jacket and shadow me,” said Ofelia Nava, patient advocate specialist. “He was genuinely interested in the work we do to ensure and improve patient satisfaction. His commitment to our patients and employees was immediately apparent. He was able to accompany me and interact with our patients during inpatient rounds and was interested to hear about our rounding in the Community Based Clinics, University Hospital Clinics, Radiology and the Emergency Room.”
