Carolyn Utsey, associate professor and chairwoman of the department of physical therapy, has been appointed inaugural holder of the Jeanette Winfree Professorship in Physical Therapy. Winfree, a 1961 graduate of UTMB, was a Galveston physical therapist. She was one of the first women in the nation to open a private practice in physical therapy.

Public Affairs launched new institutional websites for internal and external audiences. The most obvious differences between the new and previous sites are the overall appearance, greater flexibility in communicating campus news and events and a more prominent alert system.

Associate Professor Henry Cavazos, associate dean for academic and student affairs in the School of Health Professions, received the South Jetty Lighthouse Beacon of Light award for completing six years of service as board member and treasurer of the Galveston College Foundation.

Moody Medical Library is displaying the works of two artists this month. The photography of Galvestonian Pat Jakobi is featured in a display titled “Mutability.” Houston fiber artist Leisa McCord’s display is titled “Actually It *Is* Your Grandmother's Crochet. Only Smaller.”

Professor Richard R. Rahr, chairman of the department of physician assistant studies in the School of Health Professions, was awarded the honorific title of Distinguished Teaching Professor by the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers.

Associate Professor Christine Baker received the Distinguished Educator Award from the American Physical Therapy Association’s Section on Education.

The Sealy Center on Aging has appointed Blake Rasmussen as the inaugural holder of the Lloyd and Sue Ann Hill Professorship in Healthy Aging. He is a professor in the department of physical therapy in the School of Health Professions. The professorship supports translational and clinical aging research.
