Thomas E. Engells was recently named UTMB's new chief of police.

Engells comes to UTMB with many years of police experience in academic health care settings. Since 2005, he served as assistant chief of police at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Engells also has extensive experience in commanding a large police and security operation.

“Through his service as interim chief at UTMB, we were able to experience, first hand, his ability to direct our police efforts effectively and successfully,” said Michael Shriner, UTMB vice president of business operations and facilities. “His long-term service in the health care setting also uniquely qualifies him for this important leadership role at UTMB.”
