UTMB's Military Medical Student Association participated in the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project during the holidays by collecting donations from the UTMB community through the Stockings for Soldiers compaign. The MMSA collected a wide variety of goods including shoes, toiletries, sheets, dry grocery goods, magazines, videos and books.

With the assistance of Help Our Military Endure, a nonprofit organization that sends care packages throughout the year to soldiers across the world, the MMSA was able to send 21 boxes to the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project to disperse to the hospitals and soldiers in the Middle East. 

"We were so proud to see how UTMB came together to help us support the men and women who have served this country and who have either become ill or injured and are hospitalized somewhere in the world," said Stephanie Meyer, vice president of the MMSA. "The UTMB community should be so very proud too, that somewhere, a soldier, marine, sailor or airman is being taken care of in many little, but very important ways because UTMB gave of our hearts, time and money to make sure they are comfortable when being comfortable is most important. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you, UTMB!"

St. Vincent's fund established

UTMB Health employees from the Educational Resource Center and the Education Lab collected donations during the holidays to establish a fund at St. Vincent’s House that will assist patients in purchasing their medications.

Ronald McDonald House receives gifts

Staff members in the UTMB Development Office chose the Ronald McDonald House of Galveston for their 2010 Holiday project.

After receiving a wish list from current residents and a needs list for the house from Executive Director Margie Chavarria, Development staff members went shopping for gifts that included toys, clothing and supplies.

 

The Development Office maintains an ongoing relationship with the Ronald McDonald House throughout the year by preparing meals for the house patrons and is looking forward to participating in the holiday project again next year.
