UTMB Health Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Donna K. Sollenberger has been elected to the 2011 governing council of the American Hospital Association’s Section for Metropolitan Hospitals.

The Section for Metropolitan Hospitals consists of 25 members who are chief executives of some of the country’s leading metropolitan hospitals, each serving a three-year term. The section provides representation, advocacy and educational opportunities to help the nation’s suburban and urban hospitals better serve the health needs of patients and communities. It also serves as a forum for hospital leadership to discuss common interests and concerns and to participate in the AHA policy process.

“It is an honor to be elected to this prestigious appointment,” said Sollenberger. “I look forward to working with many of the most insightful and influential leaders in health care.”

The AHA is a not-for-profit association of health care provider organizations and individuals that are committed to the health improvement of their communities. The AHA includes 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, networks, other providers of care and 37,000 individual members. Founded in 1898, the AHA provides education for health care leaders and is a source of information on health care issues and trends.
