In an effort to improve the financial margin, Administrative Fellow Ben Dzialo and nurse managers from inpatient units, outpatient units, the Emergency Department and TDCJ began a project to reinforce the correct use of nutrient floorstock—food and beverages that are kept on the unit for patients to consume in-between meals.

Their combined efforts reduced the average cost per patient per day by $0.75.  This cost savings initiative has saved UTMB $49,294.51 since October 2010.
