Throughout the hospital, you may have noticed new signage promoting fun facts about exercise and encouraging you to use the stairs. Taking the stairway instead of the elevator is an easy way for busy workers to fit exercise into their schedule and improve patient care by decreasing elevator traffic.

There is also a bonus to taking the stairs – at various times during the day, UTMB Wellness Champions will be handing out pedometers, t-shirts and other prizes to employees who are on a “Stairway to Health.” The pilot stairwell is located between the main John Sealy hallway and the south entrance to Café on the Court. As the initiative takes hold, signage will be added to other locations and buildings around campus.

So, go get caught in the stairwell – it will be a good thing!
