Congratulations, Dr. Resto!

Dr. Garland Anderson, executive vice president and provost and dean, School of Medicine, recently announced that Vicente A. Resto, who has served admirably as interim Chair of Otolaryngology since October 2008, has been named to the position permanently. Resto will lead the department’s clinical, research and educational programs.
 

Resto, who joined the faculty in 2006, is the Harry Carothers Weiss chairman in otolaryngology and co-director of the Center for Cancers of the head and Neck and area medical director. He also holds joint appointments in the departments of surgery and biochemistry and molecular biology.

He directs a research laboratory focused on the study of the molecular mechanisms important for lymphatic metastasis and tumor tolerance and in 2007, received a Physician Scientist Early Career award from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to support his research on how tumors might seek out certain parts of the body. He received both his doctoral degree in human genetics and his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2000.
