Mechanic Street between Holiday Drive and Ferry Road was closed for road repairs and repaving on May 23. The City of Galveston estimates that the work should be completed within 10 working days. Employees are asked to avoid parking in this area during this time.

Effective Monday, June 6, work to repair a culvert and sewer line at the intersection of Market and 8th Streets is scheduled to begin and is expected to last until June 24. A portion of 8th Street will be closed to through traffic, so employees, patients and visitors going to the front entrance of John Sealy Hospital will need to access it via Market Street. The south lane of Market Street, heading east, will be partially closed for this project, but traffic will be able to travel in both directions on Market throughout the work. The Rebecca Sealy front driveway will remain open for this project as well.   UTMB encourages everyone to drive carefully near these construction zones.
