UTMB Police Department had a bang-up time showing off their marksmanship skills in three separate shooting events — the Chief's Cup, Law Fest and the Chancellor's Trophy Pistol Match — all showcasing their shooting skills and expertise.
The team of Sgt. David De Ore and Officers Steven Gehret and James Chide took top honors in the three-stage pistol marksmanship competition between UTMB police and the University of Houston Clear Lake Police Department, winning the Chief's Cup and individually placed first, second and third – Gehret, De Ore and Chide.
"It was great competition and a wonderful opportunity to know our neighbors," said UTMB Police Chief Thomas Engells. "My heartiest congratulations to our 2011 Shooting Team – this is a wonderful accomplishment, both individually and as a team. They set the standard for this competition. We are set to host the match and defend the cup next year, it is my hope that the Chiefs Cup has found its permanent home at UTMB."
The Lawfest Competition matched UTMB police with officers from across the region in a pistol competition, with Gehret taking second place and Officer Timothy Wilson receiving third place for their shooting accuracy.
The team of De Ore and Gehret won first place in the Chancellor's Trophy Pistol Match, an annual competition held in Austin that pits campus police from University of Texas System schools against each other.
The sharpshooters also earned individual honors at the Chancellor's event, with Gehret winning first place and De Ore placing second.
