ResearchMatch.org is a not-for-profit secure website designed to connect those who are interested in research opportunities with researchers who are looking for people to participate in their studies.

The Institute for Translational Sciences at UTMB is one of 56 institutions in the United States participating in this volunteer recruitment registry.

ResearchMatch offers an easy-to-use, free and safe way for volunteers to connect with more than 700 researchers investigating a wide range of diseases, health conditions and wellness topics. Research opportunities range from a survey that is completed at home to a clinical trial that may require a visit to the research site. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are needed.

“Participant recruitment continues to be a significant barrier to the completion of research studies nationwide,” said Dr. Allan R. Brasier, director of UTMB’s Institute for Translational Sciences. “ResearchMatch can help us connect potential participants and researchers who are advancing new treatments.”

Researchers affiliated with participating institutions may qualify to utilize the ResearchMatch database in recruitment searches for approved research studies. Based on study eligibility criteria and volunteer interests, the database matches the volunteer’s profile with available studies. Volunteers are then notified of potential matches by email generated through the ResearchMatch system.

Security features ensure that personal contact information is secure and remains hidden until the volunteer chooses to authorize its release to a researcher to enable direct contact about a specific study of interest.

In addition to connecting volunteers with studies, ResearchMatch is partnering with non-profit consumer health websites to offer volunteers convenient access to quality information on diseases, health and wellness.

ResearchMatch is the product of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Consortium, which is led by the National Center for Research Resources, a part of the National Institutes of Health. The CTSA Consortium is a national network of medical research centers, including UTMB, working together to improve the way biomedical research is conducted across the country.
